Narċis
WHAT IS NARĊIS?
Narċis is the Maltese name for daffodil and it has been purposively chosen as the name for this Unit. Narċis represents a new beginning, thus reflecting the scope of the unit. It is meant to help clients, their families, and friends during the challenging passage from institutionalisation to social integration in the community. Truly, a passage for a new beginning!
THE AIM OF NARĊIS?
The aim of specialised unit Narċis is to provide a modernised long-term care setup for highly dependent adults (18-59 years) with medical complexities that are currently residing in inadequate care settings and in need of support to be reintegrated in the community.
The objectives are specifically targeted to highly dependent adults with medical complexities and their families/friends, including:
- Provision of structured personalised care through co-production and care management in order to reintegrate in the community;
- Respite services; and
- Out-patients/counselling services.
THE JOURNEY
Narċis is to offer a unique experience for clients and their families. We will help the client to build up a social support network to assist him or her in the community. With this concept in mind, at Narċis, we will offer live-in experience for families and friends, to spend time together, understand each other and be better prepared for this new journey.
ADMISSION TO NARĊIS
Your doctor or healthcare professional can download a referral form or else contact Narċis on 2291 2255 or send an email on narcis.svp@gov.mt. A multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals will assess the application and if found eligible an assessment will be held, including domiciliary visits.
SERVICES OFFERED WITHIN THE UNIT
A team of interdisciplinary professionals are to co-produce shared solutions with the client and family/friends to reintegrate in the community. A case-management approach is to be applied whereby structured meetings are to be held on a regular basis. The services include:
- Help in social integration at home or supported living facility in the community with the help of Aġenzija SAPPORT
- 24/7 medical and nursing care
- Physiotherapy
- Occupational therapy
- Speech therapy
- Social workers
- Dental Care
- Psychologist
MEANINGFUL ACTIVITIES
Another important aspect of the programme includes meaningful activities that are expected to not only improve the quality of life but facilitates life in the community. Activities evolve around clients’ needs and include visits of social, educational, spiritual and cultural nature, such as museums, vocational schools or university, employment centres, gardens, restaurants, shops or praying areas. Others might include visits to banks or shopping centres.
LIVE-IN FACILITIES
Narċis has a number of unique characteristics that are expected to enhance the live-in experience of clients’ independency. These facilities include:
- Gym and outdoor spaces
- Multisensory room
- Indoor pool
- Virtual Intelligent system
- Therapeutic kitchen
- Automated doors
- Ceiling hoists
THE INTEGRATION PROCESS AND LIFE AFTER DISCHARGE
To facilitate integration process and life after discharge, the programme includes a myriad of integration help to support clients in the community. These include:
- Family support sessions
- Group sessions
- Family counselling
- Case and care management
- Outpatient services
- Home visits
- Respite services
RESPITE AND OUT-PATIENT SERVICES
Respite and Out-patient Services are meant for Narċis clients but are also accessible for young adults (18-59 years) with high dependencies and medical complexities, who are living in the community. An assessment is done by the multidisciplinary team, following an application that is filed by a medical doctor or healthcare professional. COMMUNITY SERVICES
Professionals from Aġenzija Sapport are collaborating with NARĊIS to further support clients during the discharge process and access community services. They will coordinate and provide information about various schemes and benefits which eventually lead to social integration of the client in the community.
Aġenzija Sapport is the national governmental agency for persons with disabilities. It shall be guiding professionals and staff working within Servizz Narċis to provide a better quality of life for individuals making use of its services.
Aġenzija Sapport shall be promoting independent living, enhance decision making and societal inclusion through drafting and implementing of service users’ support plans, daily programmes, assessments, empowerment programmes and meaningful activities.
Aġenzija Sapport shall work with service users, their families, professionals and other stakeholders to ensure clients’ integration in the community with the adequate social support needed to live a full life project.
