Physiotherapy Service

The Physiotherapy Service is aimed at helping senior citizens reach their maximum potential so as to enjoy independent living to the best possible level. The physiotherapist who forms part of a team of Allied Health Professionals, will provide therapy and rehabilitation advice/training to address any problems related to mobility.

WHAT YOU'LL GET

A detailed mobility assessment.

Manual therapy and exercise programmes.

Advice/training on the correct use of mobility equipment when indicated.

Advice/training to those caring for a senior citizen where needed.

ELIGIBILITY

General eligibility criteria:

  • A senior citizen residing in Government Residential Homes or forming part of the Public Private Partnership Scheme
  • A senior citizen living in his own home and who for health reasons; frailty or for accessibility reasons cannot leave the house. In certain cases, the physiotherapist may need to visit the senior citizen in his own home environment

DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED

General documentation:

(Domiciliary physiotherapy)

  • Medical Report signed by the general practitioner.
  • List of Prescribed Medications (if applicable)
  • Should the senior citizen be receiving other services (e.g. home nursing), an Information Note from such would be required

(Physiotherapy within Residential Homes)

  • A Referral Form which is completed by the nurse or other qualified staff in the residential home

Leasing of Motorised Variable Height Beds to Eligible Persons Living in the Community

A person who is above 60 years of age, still living in the community, and is either bed bound or has transferring difficulties, can lease a motorised variable-height bed.

WHAT YOU'LL GET

  • A detailed assessment by a Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist in the person’s home to determine whether a person is eligible for this service.
  • The eligible person will need to pay twenty-nine euros and fifty euro cents (€29.50) per month which includes VAT. The Active Ageing and Community Care will pay the rest of the leasing fee per month in addition to all other expenses such as transport and setting-up costs.
  • The monthly rent will be paid in full by Active Ageing and Community Care for those who possess a valid pink form issued by the Department of Social Security.
  • The motorised variable-height bed will be delivered to the eligible person’s house and assembled on-site within fifteen (15) working days from the notification to the contractor by Active Ageing and Community Care.

ELIGIBILITY

This service is aimed at those persons who live in the community and are 60 years of age and over and/or are:

  • bed bound;
  • have transferring difficulties;
  • are at high risk of getting contractures;
  • require good body alignment related to other comorbidities.

TERMINATION OF SERVICE

The client can terminate the service for any reason at any time during the lease period.  In this regard, the client or his/her relatives are to immediately inform the Active Ageing and Community Care that the service is no longer required.  The contractor will collect the bed within two (2) days of being notified.  The leasing fee will terminate on the day that Active Ageing and Community Care is notified that the service is no longer required.
